Four Mile Farms Produce in Talladega County is a proud member of the state's new agricultural branding program, Sweet Grown Alabama. Operated by Pete Baker for eight years, Four Mile Farms grows a variety of produce including tomatoes, strawberries, sweet corn, watermelon, peaches and more.
“When you support a local farmer, you know exactly where your produce comes from and how we handle it, and it’s picked every day, so you know it’s fresh,” Baker said. “People can use the Sweet Grown Alabama website to gain more information and accessibility to local farmers close to them.”
Sweet Grown Alabama exists to connect Alabama farmers and families. The non-profit foundation helps farmers promote their products through a convenient online searchable database. Consumers can locate Sweet Grown Alabama farmers in their area by searching the database via zip code or by product.
“Four Mile Farms Produce grows some of the best fruits and vegetables, and these are the kind of people you feel good about supporting,” said Ellie Watson, Sweet Grown Alabama director. “When you buy from Four Mile Farms Produce, you are supporting a local hardworking family, and we are thrilled to have them in our Sweet Grown Alabama network.”
When Four Mile Farms Produce began eight years ago, Baker faced the challenge to learn the local market. Baker said he got his love for farming at a young age, but worked in construction for many years until he became a full-time farmer.
Baker said he continuously strives to meet customers’ needs, and continues to grow the farm each year, with plans for more u-pick options and a nursery in the farm’s future.
