Turkey Burgers

Ingredients:
- 2 ½ lb ground turkey
- 2 cloves garlic minced (about 2-3 teaspoons)
- 4-6 large sage leaves (finely chopped to about 4 tablespoons)
- 2 small or 1 large firm apple* (grated to about 1 cup)
*I used pink lady apples - 1 small firm apple quartered then thinly sliced
- 1 cup seasoned panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons worsterchire sauce
- Spring mix lettuce
- 8 large size buns
- Salt, black pepper and olive oil to taste
Directions:
- Combine turkey, breadcrumbs, sage, garlic, worsterchire, and grated apple in a large bowl. Season well with salt and pepper. (I used about 2 teaspoons of salt).
- Work all this together well and form into 8 patties. Remember these burgers do not shrink like beef.
- Heat your large nonstick skillet on medium high with enough olive oil to prevent the burgers from sticking.
- Cook the burgers until browned on each side. Usually about 5 to 6 minutes per side. The internal temperature needs to reach 165 degrees.
- Remove from the pan and let sit for about 10 minutes.
- Prepare your burger buns with a little drizzle of olive oil and lightly toast under the oven broiler for about 3 minutes.
- Assemble your burgers topping with sliced apples and lettuce adding your favorite burger condiments. We have experimented with several condiments — honey mustard, mayonnaise, garlic mayonnaise, sweet and sour sauce, and even Chick-fil-a Polynesian sauce.
This is a large recipe. You may want half it, but these burgers are great leftover too. You can always add just the seasoning to your personal taste. These amounts worked well for our family.
